Last Minute Application Tips!. Grades and test scores are crucial in the admission procedure;

 there is no doubt about this. However, although we searching for for pupils who possess challenged themselves academically and who possess performed well in school, we rely on the qualitative factors of the application to arrive at a decision. At this time within the process, senior high school seniors should focus their attention regarding the presentation components of the application: the essay, short answers, extracurricular activities, as well as the page of recommendation.

The Essay

The essay is really a pupil’s opportunity to tell us who they are, maybe not only as being a person but also as a student. The absolute most successful essays are the most essays that are authentic. We are really to know who our applicants are. The best advice I can give to students is to ‘be yourself’.

Quick Answers

They are called short answers, buuuut they shouldn’t be too quick of an response. The answers that are short taken very really in our review process. They provide us insight that is valuable to a student’s academic interest also as their commitments outside of the class.

Extracurricular Activities

We are trying to find pupils who will probably be active members regarding the USC community. I always recommend that students list any commitments they’ve outside of the classroom. This consists of clubs that are traditional recreations, volunteer organizations, work experience etc. But it addittionally includes, non-traditional activities such as for instance taking care of siblings or other family people, productive hobbies like photography, marathon training or everest that is climbing.

Letter of Recommendation

Pupils often feel like they don’t have control over their letter of suggestions; yet, pupils do have control over whom they approach to write a page of recommendation for the kids. We require that at least one recommendation come from someone who can comment on the student’s academic character and possible (i.e. counselor or teacher).

Visiting Campus over the Holiday Break? No problem!

I invested part of my morning at USC’s bookstore while our file review system was temporarily down monday. In the midst of choosing the precise size and item I took a moment to pause and look around—the bookstore was incredibly busy that I was looking to buy as a Christmas gift for a family member! I wondered what was going on and realized that do not only are finals winding down this week, but students are preparing to go homeward for the holiday break and were also doing some gift shopping that is last-minute. The bookstore was super crowded early in the day this week, but by this weekend, our campus are going to be mostly empty as the University closes for vacation break from December 22 January 1.

Also although the admission office will never be staffed over the break, prospective students and families are welcome to check out campus and take their particular tour that is self-guided! We understand that many visitors want to tour USC on weekends and other times of year once we usually do not provide formal trips, thus we now have developed the USC that is official self-Guided pamphlet for the university visit requirements! This resource follows the path that is same USC Tour Guides take on their tours and it features a map and pictures of significant buildings and locations on campus as a guide. On the way, you’ll understand Campus Center that houses student offices and dining options, academic buildings, and libraries such as Doheny Memorial Library, the oldest research library on campus. Similar to every tour led by our current students, the self-guided trip ends at the infamous statue of Tommy Trojan. Throughout the 12 months, it is possible to usually see students, alumni, as well as other guests taking pictures in front of Tommy, so don’t be shy to take one yourself!

Exactly What tour would be complete without providing details about the certain areas around campus and things to do in Los Angeles? In the last page of the brochure, various local museums, restaurants, recreations venues, and shopping places are highlighted in case campus site visitors want to explore areas off campus, as well.

Whether the truth is USC on your very own or led with a trip guide, you’re sure to get a feeling of just what our breathtaking campus while the city of LA have to give you. Take pleasure in the vacation break!
