Mankind is blessed to have the gift of eyesight and only those who do not have it understand the pain that it is inflicted by its loss. Like everything else, we should take care of our eyesight and by making a few dietary changes, it can be ensured. Here are five food items that have been proven to improve eyesight.

Fish

Fish contains DHA and it is one of the principal nutrients for the eye. Children, in the growing years, are encouraged to eat a lot of fish and one of the reasons is to improve vision. Cataract can also be prevented, or a t least slowed down, just by a healthy intake of fish everyday.

Leafy Greens

The next time a plate of greens is put before you, try to turn your nose up! It just might be the thing to delay your generation of the eye. Spinach and cabbage contains high dose of potassium and zinc and a host of other micro nutrients that are crucial for the health of the eye.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits like lemons and oranges are a rich source of Vitamin C and also Vitamin A. Both of these are important if you want to have impeccable vision. Deficiency of Vitamin A is one of the major reasons for night- blindness in children and can also result in color blindness. Your daily intake of fruits should have them.

Nuts and Dry Fruits

Almonds, raisins and walnuts are a rich source of Vitamin E and a handful of them daily is enough for your daily requirements. Vitamin E reduces macular degeneration and can drastically reduce chances of blindness. It is important for the body to have anti-oxidants and almonds carry quite a lot of them.

Egg Yolk

While most would complain that eggs contain fat, the egg yolk is a rich source of lutein, which can slow down macular degeneration in older people. 0.25 mg of lutein can be obtained from a cooked egg, even more from an uncooked one and it can go a long way if it is consumed along with olive oil or coconut oil as the absorption by the body increases manifold.
